Oppo Find 7 could debut with Snapdragon 805 CPU

Roughly a year since the debut of their flagship Find 5, rumors are starting to piece together what we can expect to see out of the phone's followup. According to recent whispers, the Oppo Find 7 could launch with a Snapdragon 805 CPU, Qualcomm's latest and greatest system-on-a-chip for mobile devices.

Other rumored specs include a whopping 3GB of RAM, a 13MP camera, and — a first from Oppo — 4G LTE support. As to that LTE support, Oppo recently posted an image to their Weibo page with text that translates to "4G LTE, I'm ready!" The message could simply be a response to a recent push to aggressively roll out LTE to Chinese mobile users, but it might double as a tease for the Find 7.

If the Find 7 lives up to its rumored spec sheet, we again could be dealing with a mammoth phone from the feisty mobile manufacturer looking to make a name for itself among the myriad of Android options out there. Unfortunately, that's exactly the reason why many users outside of China will never have a chance to check out the hardware should it come to fruition.

Droid DNA to receive two-part update to Android 4.2.2, will gain Sense 5 features

Posted: 06 Dec 2013 10:16 AM PST

HTC Droid DNA

Verizon has announced the details of an upcoming Android 4.2.2 update for the Droid DNA by HTC. The update will arrive as two parts, and, when completed, will implement HTC Sense 5 and a host of features that have so far been exclusive to the company's One lineup.

Droid DNA owners will have new features like BlinkFeed and quick settings to toy around with in the new version of Sense. The latest version of HTC's customized Android interface is less obtrusive  than what currently features on the Verizon handset. Users can expect this to carryover into updated Sense apps including the calendar, dialer, gallery, and contacts list. A number of bug fixes and tweaks are also packaged with the update.

Users will first be prompted to download software version 2.08.605.1 before completing a second phase to bring the DNA's software to version 3.06.605.4. The update(s) should begin rolling out to handsets shortly.

If you own an Android phone, it's highly unlikely that Bing is your search engine of choice. So how will Microsoft lure users into downloading their app? With the ability to automatically change your wallpaper to Bing's image of the day. The functionality introduced in version 4.2.0 of the app mirrors the capabilities of Bing's Windows Phone equivalent.

Along with daily wallpapers, the app does see a bit of a redesign in case you were considering entering a search term or two. Hey, not everyone is trying to get scroogled.

The physical QWERTY keyboard will live to see another day thanks to LG. Their upcoming F3Q handset for T-Mobile has leaked, revealing what looks to be a midrange handset along the lines of the LG Optimus F3. That device landed with the carrier earlier this year.

The Optimus F3 features a 4-inch display at 800×480 resolution, dual-core processor, and 5MP camera. The F3Q looks to be more of the same, save for the addition of a five-row QWERTY keyboard.

Popular flashlight app ‘deceived’ users into sharing location data

The maker of Brightest Flashlight has agreed to settle with the Federal Trade Commission on charges that the app "deceived consumers" into sharing location data with advertisers. While the app does allow users the ability to disable the reporting of location data to third-parties, sharing is on by default, rendering the option "meaningless," according to the FTC. The complaint claims that the app's privacy policy does not accurately disclose information on what type of data is being collected and how it will be used.

Goldenshores Technologies, the developer behind Brightest Flashlight, ultimately gets what amounts to a slap on the wrist, agreeing to alter their app's privacy policy and implement a true option to disable location sharing from within the app. Users will be asked to opt-in to location data collection rather than having the function on by default.  Goldenshores Technologies must also delete any stored location data already collected by the app.

Brightest Flashlight has been downloaded over 50 million times by Android users.

ASUS to unveil Padfone Mini at December 11th event in Taiwan

Invites are going out for a December 11th event at which ASUS will unveil the Padfone Mini. The event will take place in Taiwan.

The Padfone Mini is expected to be a smaller, (possibly) cheaper version of ASUS' 2-in-1 device. The most recent model in the lineup, the PadFone Infinity, combined a 5-inch smartphone with a 10-inch tablet. The Padfone Mini is expected to rely on a similar setup, swapping in a 4.3-inch smartphone and 7-inch tablet. As with older Padfone models, the smartphone portion will function as the "brains" of the setup and utilize a quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor.

A major hurdle with the original Padfone sales model was pricing, expecting consumers to spend big on both the smartphone and tablet halves. The Padfone Mini could address this issue to an extent, offering a cheaper model that could have more mass appeal.
