What is the “LG G Bot” and several other new trademarks LG filed for recently?

CES wouldn’t be CES without some last minute trademark filings, would it? LG is our benefactor in today’s episode, with the South Korean company giving us a gargantuan list of new trademark filings ahead of the big annual show. There’s a lot to see here, so let’s just hop right into it:

  • LG G Bot: the “G” in this bot’s name has us thinking this could be some sort of Android device, but it could be anything… like a competitor for The iRobot smart vacuum.
  • Meta Drive: a new cloud storage service? It’s all the rage these days.
  • Fireweb: could be an Opera Turbo-esque feature for the stock browser where pages are compressed for harsh data connections. Or perhaps a new browser altogether.
  • Air Gap and Zero Gap: new names for a zero gap chassis construction? This is anyone’s guess.

There were a great deal more, such as Exalt, Reflex, Elite, and Motion, but a great deal of these were old trademarks being renewed by LG for current or possible future use. Trademark filings don’t often reveal much about the products they’re supposed to represent, but it’s always fun to play the guessing and dreaming game.

We expect LG to make a bit of noise at CES next week, and whatever they don’t show in Vegas we’re definitely expecting them to bring to Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. These trademarks could end up being something completely different than what we’ve predicted here, but that’s the nature of filings that leave you with just an inkling of information and a ton of time to let your imagination run wild. Let us know what you think these might be in the comments section below.
