HTC: KitKat for HTC One Google Play edition is now in Google’s hands, rollout expected soon Posted: 15 Nov 2013 01:07 PM PST Back when Google officially took the wraps off the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat, HTC wasted no time in letting their customers know exactly when they should expect the latest update to hit their flagship HTC One devices. Along with update timing on unlocked and carrier models, HTC promised KitKat would be hitting the HTC One Google Play edition before all the others — within 15 days to be exact. If you’ve been watching your calendar closely (like we have), you’d know that an announcement was imminent. Today, HTC took to Twitter to once again chime in on their update plans, letting everyone know that their stock version of Android 4.4 KitKat has officially been sent off to Google, where it’s currently waiting to be pushed out to the HTC One GPe. Exact timing is yet to be determined, but owners of the HTC One Google Play edition can rest a little easier knowing it’s now in Google’s hands. [Twitter] |

New leak says HTC M8 will launch with KitKat, again points to 5-inch display and Snapdragon 800 Posted: 15 Nov 2013 08:26 AM PST We don't know much about the rumored followup to the HTC One, but the details are slowly starting to come together. Initial leaks have said the phone will feature a Snapdragon 800 CPU and a display measuring between 5 and 5.2 inches. The latter spec has been narrowed slightly thanks to @evleaks, who today tipped that the handset, known for now as the HTC M8, will feature a 5-inch, 1080p display. The presence of a Snapdragon 800 was again mentioned, and it is said the device will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat. The presence of Google's latest version of Android doesn't come as much of a surprise. The M8 has been rumored to launch with major carriers like Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile by the end of Q1 2014. The date sets us up for a potential unveiling at CES or Mobile World Congress, though HTC may opt to go with a standalone event. Despite HTC's money woes, the One is one of the more favorably reviewed handsets of 2013. An upgrade will be gladly welcomed, even if the initially rumored specs look to only marginally improve over the current model. In the meantime, HTC is rolling out their One Max to more carriers and hoping they can catch lightning on a bottle to turn around their fortunes. [via @evleaks] |
HTC One Max now available from Sprint — get it for as low as $149 Posted: 15 Nov 2013 07:51 AM PST The long-rumored HTC One is finally available for purchase from Sprint today. Priced at $249.99 with a new two-year agreement, online buyers earn an additional $100 in instant savings bringing the final price down to $149.99. The One Max is the bigger brother to the HTC One and rounds out a trio that includes the HTC One Mini. An Android 4.3 handset, the phone features a gargantuan 5.9-inch 1080p display along with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 32GB of internal storage. We'll have a full review of the device coming for those on the fence about the super-sized version of one of our favorite Android phones of the past year, but for now you might want to check out Android Forums for the latest discussion. Moto G will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat in the US Posted: 15 Nov 2013 07:07 AM PST Motorola is promising Android KitKat for all Moto G users by the end of January. Some won't even have to wait for an OTA update, though. According to Motorola's Mark Randal, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain and Operations, the Moto G's staggered rollout provides the company a chance to tinker with the software version handsets will run out of the box. Regions getting the G after Christmas will see the device ship with Google's latest mobile platform update, Android 4.4 KitKat. This "Wave 2" rollout includes the United States and Southeast Asia. Regions that were part of "Wave 1" (Europe, Canada, Latin America, and some Asian countries) did not see the Moto G ship with KitKat initially, but the update should begin arriving around the time that Wave 2 devices begin reaching shelves, which fits in with Motorola's initial timeline. The Moto G is an affordable handset that might be considered a budget version of the Moto X. Available below $200 on contract, the phone features a 4.5-inch 720p display, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, and 1GB RAM. [via Omio] |
Google updates Chrome for Android with improved autofill Posted: 15 Nov 2013 06:29 AM PST A new version of Chrome for Android is rolling out in the Google Play Store. Officially Chrome 31, the latest build gets version number 31.0.1650.59. The update addresses a number of bugs, performance, stability, and security issues, but is most notable for the addition of the ability to print from Chrome (on devices running KitKat) and enhanced autofill for forms. Simultaneously, Google has launched an update to Chrome Beta for Android. Pegged at version 31.0.11650.60, it addresses instances of the browser crashing as well as removes the ability to to add an application shortcut. A blog post detailing the launch says this functionality will be added back in a later build. Head over to Google's blog posts for the official changelogs and more details.
