Last week saw the release of version 2.0.5 of Audacity, a free software product that lets you record audio to your PC or manipulate existing recordings. Whether your requirement is to edit an existing MP3 file, for example to increase its volume or remove clicks, or to record and edit live audio from a microphone or other input, Audacity will do all this and more. It's on a par with many of the professional packages as used by radio broadcasters and producers, yet it's available for free.

If you don't already use Audacity but you're into computer audio, it's well worth a look. If you already use it and love it, you'll want to upgrade for the latest new features and fixes.
